Lots of publicity for MyBestShot.com

Wow! Last week, Photographyblog.com posted a nice article about MyBestShot.com. Soon, Dutch website Photofacts.nl followed, as did Croatian website Fotografija.hr. This not only resulted in a large number of new visitors coming to our site, they also submitted some amazing photos. Some of my personal favorites:

We also got some feedback: not everyone appreciated the CreativeCommons license that we applied to all photos. Therefore, you now have the freedom to choose between CreativeCommons Share Alike and All Rights Reserved. By default, we apply the All Rights Reserved, so you only share your photo freely if you deliberately choose to do so.

Want to change the license that applies to your photo? Change it by logging in, go to Account > Settings

We're live!

Ok, the moment has come, MyBestShot.com is open for business! Feel free to browse, and make sure to submit your own best photo!

We're currently still facing some issues with emails ending up in your spam folder, mostly for Hotmail and Gmail users, we're fixing that in the next couple of days. Keep that in mind.

We hope you enjoy the site, and please tell us what you think about it!

Technical details

Getting closer to our launch date, I would like to share some of the technical background of MyBestShot.com with you.

First of all, the site is running PHP, using a MySQL database. These two help me to generate all the pages, process logins and photo uploads and store important information. Secondly, I am using the MooTools javascript framework to allow nice slide-ins of content, not too much tough: overkill is never good;-). The lovely animation you see when enlarging photos are provided by Highslide, I love them!

I store all the photos that are uploaded (the true beauty of this website!) on Amazon S3, a real cool and easy way to store files at low cost. The website itself is hosted by phpBBhost.nl, an excellent hosting provider who I've been working with for years.

Within just a few days, the website will be available, so hold your breath... (actually, don't!)
